About Calculator Menu

This site started with a mortgage problem. After buying a house when both prices and interest rates were climbing fast, I kept coming back to my bank's mortgage calculator - but it couldn't do exactly what I needed. I wanted to model both extra monthly payments and an annual lump sum at the same time. No calculator I found did it quite right, so I built my own.

From there it made sense to keep going. I'm a web developer (these days more managing developers than writing code myself), and this was a project I could tinker with. Calculator Menu is the result - a growing collection of free calculators built the way I actually want to use them.

This site is also an ongoing experiment with Claude Code. I'm using it to help build this site and learning as I go - where it genuinely speeds things up, where it needs guidance, and where it's honestly not that helpful at all. The blog has some of those observations along the way.
